Luv: American Style at The New Vic Theater*I was not compensated for this post. I received complimentary tickets for review purposes.
Luv: American-Style was not your typical hip hop dance show. Using the creative expressions of hip hop and folk dances, the cast of Rennie Harris RHAW created a performance that illustrated the climate of today’s urban communities. The dancers used hip hop and break-dance moves (which the teens loved), against a backdrop of music from the 80’s and 90’s (which the thirty+ adults loved) to show the fun, dark, and injustices that today’s communities face. The show gave a positive message on how love and freedom of expression can unite even the worst of enemies. As a thirty something adult, it spoke to me and allowed me to have a necessary discussion about issues that my now 10 year old niece experiences in the city. I appreciate the artistic expression of these performers, and found myself trying out the moves with my niece at home. Luv is a 1 hour show targeted for young adults and teens. It is a bit dark and confusing for younger children, and for those who really do not enjoy break dancing routines. But for everyone else, the show will keep you moving and inspired at the same time.

We are avid Disney lovers & when we heard that Disney Live, Three Classic Fairy Tales, would be coming to a theater near us...we counted down the days till opening night. The delightful hosts: Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Goofy did a great job transitioning between the stories and elevated the whole Disney experience. Catch Me! at the New Victory Theater
*I was not compensated for this post. I received complimentary tickets for review purposes.
Catch Me at the New Victory theater was a fun unexpected journey. I knew that the Flip Fabrique group would incorporate some creative acrobatic movements; but to my surprise they took me on an entertaining journey through childhood. The group created a kind of story about friends and their experiences such as playing on a rainy day, reflecting on summer memories, having sleepovers, and games kids play at night, etc. All of these scenes were performed with amazing acrobatic athleticism that had both kids and adults amazed. They also added a unique blend of humor through sound and movement that had everyone laughing. My niece was able to play with a few of the props featured in the show, and was excited to see the cool tricks using those same props. The show is 75 min long which is perfect for children, and provided enough laughs to keep the audience interested and entertained. The music was geared more for the adults and at times it was harder for younger kids to understand. Not withstanding, the performers were so creative with their flips on trampolines and even sleeping bags that we had to give a standing ovation. After the show we were able to meet each performer and get their autographs, it was a perfect ending for my niece. Catch me is a unique circus experience that older children and family will enjoy. I personally would like to see the show again!

Pinocchio at the New Victory Theater
*I was not compensated for this post. I received complimentary tickets for review purposes.
Pinocchio at the New Victory Theater was an interesting take on the original story from 1883. Those of us who grew up with the other versions will find this musical play a bit dark, different and yet very creative. The Pinocchio musical uses the plot and character traits of the original main characters. For example, Pinocchio’s character is naughty and selfish (who learns through many mistakes that family is to be appreciated); while the other characters have their own contemporary twists. The design of the stage is very creative turning a giant wood structure into many different forms of art visuals that older children will find fun and interesting. The music is rock themed and exciting for adults, however, my 10yr old niece found it a bit heavy and dark. That being said, my niece did enjoy seeing the story performed in a different light. She was able to easily follow the plot and the lessons on life’s dangers that the original story depicts. She called it “Pinocchio Remixed” and liked the humorous acts of the characters. She didn't mind that it was not the classic version but was happy to see it kept the character of the cricket and Pinocchio’s growing nose. Overall, it was a very cool show that I would recommend for older children (8+) and adults; just don’t expect the cute version and enjoy the creative journey it takes you through. Thank you, ThirtyMommy.com for a great evening with my niece.

The Light Princess at The New Victory Theater
*I was not compensated for this post. I received complimentary tickets for review purposes.
The Light Princess at the New Victory Theater is a wonderfully entertaining show for the whole family. I took my 9yr old niece (who has attended many Broadway/Arts shows) and she thought it was one of the best shows she had seen. It is about a princess who could not fall and had no sense of gravity (because of a curse), yet who did not want to change anything about herself and wanted find someone who would accept her as she was. The story had a unique twist on the “saving the princess” theme and it was refreshing to see this fairy tale told in a unique comedic form.
About 15 minutes before the show various cast members interacted and greeted the audience, giving special attention to the children. The show then begins with funny musicals and cleverly choreographed dancers called “gravitons” that helps the audience use their imagination to visualize gravity/air, water, doors, and even magic. My niece enjoyed identifying all the different roles and emotions the gravitons performed. Something I appreciated was the multicultural cast. You saw a diverse group of people from all over the United Stated, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The show was about 70 min long which was perfect for the children, and the entire cast stood after the show to meet everyone. No cast member left until all the children got their autographs, pictures or hugs. My niece was especially excited to meet the Gravitons and Wiseman who were her favorite characters. It was a delightful experience and I recommend this show for all elementary aged children and their families. -MR The Light Princess is showing from February 17-March 8 Ticket Information: Membership discount tickets are LOCKED IN at $25, $18, $13 and $10 (depending on seat location). Marvel Universe LIVE!
**Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post. I received free tickets for review purposes. The opinions in this post are my own.
G recently became interested in Super Heroes and reading comic books. He is so eager to learn more and more about the different characters, who their alter egos are and what their super powers are. Each day he identifies with a different super hero, sometimes he says he’s Captain America, other days he’s Spider Man and he carries out his day pretending to be a great, fearless leader. You can only imagine his delight when he was able to attend the Marvel Universe Live event at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
To start off this memorable experience, G and his best buddy, T, took some photos with the crew of this amazing show. Afterwards they had a chance to hone in on their fighting skills by practicing shooting a bow and arrow as well as knock out some of the bad guys. They took a break to get some much needed nourishment before they went to the arena to become utterly engaged in this original story that brings more than 25 Marvel characters together on one epic quest. The story is framed around the battle over the Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power and one of the most feared and coveted treasures in the Marvel Universe, that has been shattered into pieces by the Mighty Thor in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. With the pieces scattered across the globe, Thor’s villainous brother Loki devises a scheme to clone its powers, inciting a threat that could not only decimate Earth but also obliterate the Universe.
The show starts off with exciting visual effects and pyrotechnics that jump starts the heart (even my husband jumped out of his seat). G and T were instantly mesmerized by the special effects and the choreography of the exciting battles. It was non stop action throughout the entire show with one intermission. The kids got a taste of each super hero’s and villain’s strengths and weaknesses. As I looked around I saw wide eyed wonderment on all the kids and the crowd cheered throughout the show.

I took the boys to see The Three Bears Holiday Bash at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (playing November 12-December 30) in Central Park this holiday season. The boys were captivated by the master puppetry, music and interactive storyline. We even learned lots of new facts about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and had the opportunity to meet the puppeteers! This is a great place for both children and adults and we can't wait to check out the next show, Bessie's Big Shot starting January 14, 2014.

Ballerina Swan is a unique blend of dance, music, puppetry and storytelling that captivated the audience from the opening scene. "T" really enjoyed the ballet dancing especially when the ballerinas taught the swan how to dance. This is another great family musical that will entertain the whole family.

The Wiggles Taking Off Tour & New Toy Line!
*Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post.
"A" and I had the chance to meet The Wiggles during their North American "Taking Off" concert tour while they were in New York City. Anthony, Emma, Lachy and Simon are even more amazing in person and "A" had tons of fun interacting and playing with some of their new Wicked Cool toys exclusively at Toys R Us. The new toy line is aimed at Wiggle fans ages 18 months old and up and features fun and interactive toys like: The Wiggles Wiggly Microphone ($9.99), The Wiggles Drum Set ($14.99), The Wiggles Musical Guitar ($19.99), The Wiggles Musical Keyboard ($19.99), The Big Red Car Steering Wheel ($24.99), Big Red Car Keys ($7.99), Bump N'Go Big Red Car ($14.99), Wiggly Friends Squeeze & Play Plush ($19.99) and The Wiggles Figures Pack. So, if you didn't get a chance to see the Wiggles on tour, be sure to pick up a few of their new toys that bring the Wiggles singing, dancing and music-making into your home!

NYBG Family Dinners with Mario Batali's Chefs
*Disclaimer: We were not compensated for this post. We were given complimentary tickets to attend.
We had the opportunity to attend the second of four Family Dinners with Mario Batali's Chefs at the New York Botanical Garden. The Family Dinners offer al fresco dining experience at NYBG's Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, featuring hands-on gardening and craft activities, live cooking demonstrations hosted by Mario Batali's top chefs, and a three-course family style meal.
There were a number of activities to keep everyone occupied before dinner; we strolled through the beautiful Family Garden, decorated aprons, watered the plants, planted radish seeds, identified and smelled fresh herbs, made a salad dressing herb mixture and replanted a basil plant to bring home. (For more detailed activity information check out playgroundchefs.com)The outdoor setting was amazing and the Chef led food demonstrations were delightful and very interactive, encouraging the children in attendance to come up to the kitchen and assist. We had a great time at the family style meal: the food was exquisite and each course was paired with a different beverage. These Family Dinners are an excellent way to connect with nature & your family while enjoying great food: truly a Priceless experience!
