#SneakerJam15
*Disclaimer: I am a Niche Parent & Network Influencer and served as an on-site social media correspondent at #SneakerJam15. Thanks to Pernod Ricard for sponsoring today's message.
What happens when you combine iconic sneakers, an amazing film icon, a trendy venue, old school tunes and top shelf drinks...you get Spike Lee’s Sneaker Jam 15; a party where sneakers are mandatory and celebrated through art and music. Sneaker Jam 2015 took place during All Star Weekend and was the height of the Brooklyn, NYC based celebratory festivities. Sneaker Jam 15 was the place to be following the All Star festivities held at the legendary Barclay’s Center. I was beyond excited to be one of the specially invited VIP guests and came dressed and ready to party with my girl, Nellie!
Spike Lee is well known for his creative film work, unique style, involvement in all things Brooklyn, NYC as well as his collaboration with Absolut to create a one of a kind flavor celebrating Brooklyn, Absolut Brooklyn. The Brooklyn venue, BRIC, was decorated with Lee's sports memorabilia; ranging from signed jerseys, newspaper articles, photographs, paintings, drawings and there was even a viewing section to sit and enjoy one of his famous films. Thanks to the exquisite brands of liquors, there was a variety of amazing signature drinks flowing all night at well stocked open bars placed throughout the venue: Avion Elevated Margarita, Seagram’s Pineapple Gin Gimlet, Martell Sidecar and my favorite, The Aloha Peach made with Absolut Peach. The drinks were a major feature of the celebration and I toasted to my all-time favorite J’s the 3s! The 3s are another well known Brooklyn classic that have been celebrated through the years. These shoes represent all that Brooklyn culture offers: style, timelessness, uniqueness & attitude. The 3’s are an innovative shoe that transcends over time; keeping with the original essence of the brand, the 3’s add color, charisma, character and confidence to the wearer. These shoes stand out and demand attention. Not only are they perfect for playing basketball but they are also perfect for everyday urban wear and a night out on the town; they can be dressed up or down. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 90s placed me in the center of Brooklyn culture and the 3s were a major "part" of our street style. The 3’s represent more than a shoe; they represent a lifestyle and a fresh way to look at fashion, culture and Brooklyn. -SD |
Mary J Blige's Album: The London Sessions
*Disclaimer: I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of the One2One Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mary J Blige's new album The London Sessions from start to finish. The 10 tracks were smooth & soulful and her iconic sound was highlighted in each song. Some of my favorite tracks were "Therapy" where she vented about a relationship gone wrong, "Nobody But You" an upbeat song about longing for the one you love and "Worth My Time" where she explains her point of view to her partner. I was able to relate to something in each song, which is another reason I love Mary J Blige's music, her songs are relative to everyone and seem to allow the listener to actually feel what she is feeling through her words and melodic voice. This album is one that I will be listening to for a while!

Romio Celebrates Moms
*Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post, I received a complimentary invitation to the event and a gift bag.
I recently attended a "mommy" discussion & pampering event hosted by Romio at the Washington Jefferson Hotel. There was a panel of mothers featured: Stephanie Dua, founder & CEO of Homer, a modern twist on early learning app focused on building literacy for 3 to 9 year olds, Debbie Silverstein, General Manager of the Washington Jefferson Hotel and Anna Koffler, Founder of Primp In Home. The afternoon was filled with great conversation and honest discussion about the ups & downs of motherhood as well as the importance of "word of mouth" when on the hunt for great family friendly recommendations. The dialogue was accompanied by champagne, decadent cupcakes & pampering in the form of mini-facials and manicures!

What Maise Knew (movie review)
*Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post. I was invited to a complimentary pre-screening.
I was invited for a private screening of the movie: What Maise Knew at the amazing space, Meet at the Apartment in Soho with the lovely women of Momtrends and a group of phenomenal bloggers. This movie is based on the Henry James novel and set in New York City. As we sat down to watch the movie, we grabbed snacks, drinks and made sure that the boxes of tissues were within hands reach. The movie told the story of separation, adultery and broken families through the eyes of an innocent 6 year old, Maise (Onata Aprile). Susanna (Julianne Moore) plays the role of Maise's selfish rocker mom who struggles with having a healthy relationship with anyone in her life. Maise lives in a revolving door between her father (Steven Coogan), her mother's boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard) and her nanny. The movie really got inside the head of a child and illustrated a break-up and an unstable home life from a child's point of view.
After the movie, we were able to have an in person conversation with Julianne and the directors: Scott McGhee and David Siegel of the film. The ensuing discussion was eye-opening, honest and emotional. This truly is a great movie that tells the story of modern day parenting in an urban city, See What Maise Knew: Look for tickets here.
